1. The missing passage is from an interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw, published on December 25th, 2003.
2. This is the "third time the voters rebel against the political establishment in three years," Trouw wrote, referring to Fortuyn‘s win in Rotterdam municipal elections in March 2002 and his party‘s astounding results in the country‘s general elections two months later as the first two blows.
3. Senior Socialist and Green party members of the European Parliament called the Dutch commissioner‘s remarks "scandalous" and "unacceptable". Writing in Thursday‘s edition of Trouw, a Dutch newspaper, Ms Kroes expressed her joy over the prospect of Germany under a female chancellor.
4. "I am angry with myself for being gullible, credulous and naive." In an editorial, Dutch newspaper Trouw wrote Saturday that "the stain will always remain, but Heesters is welcome home in the Netherlands _ it‘s nice that he‘s appearing here 104 years after his birth." "It‘s all too easy for people today, most of whom grew up after the war, to pass judgment on the collaborators then," the paper wrote.
5. "The result shows the wide chasm between voters and the political establishment which, expressed in these cold figures, is dramatic," center–left Christian daily Trouw agreed, insisting "the outcome is not only a rejection of the EU referendum ... it also a turning point in our democracy." Humiliating blows to establishment÷In the Netherlands, where the center–right coalition government and more than 80 percent of lawmakers had come out in favor of the constitution, the clear–cut voter rejection is the latest in a line of humiliating blows to the establishment.
